Legionella Testing Services

Phigenics offers a variety of testing options to meet the needs of your clients, including the PVT TimeZero™ dipslide culture method (culture results in 2-3 business days), the PVT NextDay PCR method (molecular marker results the day after sampling). These methods provide results that are accurate, timely and comprehensive. In addition, we offer the standard ISO culture method (results in the standard 10-14 business days). These tests are packaged in a variety of ways to ensure that you receive the analyses that you need in the time that you need them.

PVT TimeZero™ Test Method

Compared to other methods, the PVT using the TimeZero culture method is:

  • FASTER
    Because culturing occurs at “time zero” (t=0) and results are typically communicated in 2-4 days after receipt in the lab.
  • MORE ACCURATE
    Because variations due to changes in water samples during shipment are entirely eliminated.
  • MORE COMPHRENSIVE
    Because:
    + Legionella bacteria and total heterotrophic aerobic bacteria (THAB) are obtained from the same sample with one protocol.
    + PVT test product combinations include the Phigenics patented TimeZero™ method, the ISO 11731 spread plate method and the NexyDay PCR method.
    + Results are reported electronically with digital images and chain of custody records and are automatically archived in the Phigenics web-based analytics platform (phiMetrics), providing access to results at any time.

PVT NextDay Legionella PCR

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) provides an analysis of a water sample at a genetic level. Detection of Legionella species DNA by the NextDay Legionella PCR is used to deliver fast, preliminary results to indicate whether water systems are well-managed. It does this by providing molecular-marker negative screen data. If the test result is negative, then there is a 99% probability the traditional culture-based results will also be negative.

VAR FAQs:

Do I qualify for the VAR program?

To qualify, your company should be a water treatment service provider, consultant, or equipment supplier to any commercial, institutional, or industrial facility and have direct interaction with facility management personnel. A simple review of your business offering will be reviewed by Phigenics to ensure that your
company qualifies.

What is my benefit to being a VAR?

The safety of your customers' water systems is one of their utmost concerns. When they are ready to validate their water systems, they want to be assured that their results are accurate and are received timely and efficiently. Unfortunately, the standard Legionella tests require incubation for 10 days (once received in the lab); this can feel like an eternity for facility managers! In addition, it is unlikely that the Legionella or total bacteria levels that were in their system at the time the sample was drawn are anything like those levels in their systems when the test report shows up 10-14 days later! Facility managers want and need accurate, fast, and comprehensive Legionella and total bacteria analysis.

Why PASL?

Phigenics Analytical Services Laboratory (PASL) is certified as proficient in theEnvironmental Legionella Isolation Techniques Evaluation (ELITE) program administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for using the Phigenics Patented TimeZero™ test method and the ISO 11731 spread plate method. PASL has passed every proficiency test since the beginning of the CDC ELITE program. PASL is a New York State ELAP-certified laboratory for the analysis of potable and non-potable water and provides a wide range of other testing services for microbial hazards such as Pseudomonas, Stenotrophomonas, Acinetobacter, Mycobacterium, Aspergillus, and Fusarium. PASL also provides complete testing services required by the Safe Drinking Water Act.
