Novant Health and Phigenics have partnered together to capture lessons learned through water management program development and implementation. A major lesson learned through the process was the importance of putting people before pipes. The story begins with a historical perspective of the reasons Novant Health proactively pursued an enterprise-wide comprehensive water management program prior to industry guidance publications. Topics addressed in the case study include: how to build a culture of education in water management, the importance of data-driven decisions, recognizing the need for continuous improvement, how to address areas of opportunity in a mature water system, the impact of COVID-19, and best practices for proactively addressing hazards. The case study breaks down the reality that water management can be simple and uncomplicated when guided by a 7-step approach. Readers will understand the radical impact that individual water management teams members can make when they are educated, engaged, and accountable.
